There are two temporary exhibits, both drawing from the over 20 000 items in the permanent collection. ‘Through the Weeping Glass: Reflections on the Mütter Museum by the Quay Brothers’ includes their film about the museum holdings that drew their interest.February 28, 2017 – September 30, 2019. Using artifacts from The Historical Medical Library and Mütter Museum collections, this exhibition examined the shifting perceptions about abnormal human development, from fear and wonder to curiosity and clinical science. Imperfecta introduced the subject of teratology with a look at prodigy books.Dr. Robert Hicks is director of the Mutter Museum and Historical Medical Library at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. “When yellow fever struck, the consequences were absolutely horrific”, says Hicks. “When people began vomiting up their stomach lining, the black vomit, that was the real lethal calling card that it has arrived.”The Museum is named for Thomas Dent Mütter, MD (1811 – 1859), a physician, professor, and Fellow of the College. In 1858 he bequeathed his entire teaching collection of more than 1,700 objects and specimens to the College, along with a substantial endowment..
