The IC-R30 far outperformed the SDS100 and rarely stopped, opened squelch without good clear voice traffic. Alternately any USB charger will power and/or charge the SDS100 battery. If you have a smartphone or other USB device charger you can use it if you don’t want to use the charger that came with the radio. When I attempted the update on my SDS100, it said my firmware was already up-to-date. I knew this was not correct, and went back and double-checked the process below . Check with your motherboard manufacturer or PC maker. The micro can be used to power only. The mini powers and will charge simultaneously if enabled.
